Please keep medical history and diagnoses out of the form. Share them in conversation, and only what you are comfortable sharing.
Not sure whether companion care is the right fit? That is a fine reason to call. Companion care is about everyday help at home: light housekeeping, meals, rides to appointments and outings, company, and reminders. The consultation helps work out what your family needs. What happens on the first call and home visit
- 1. A short conversation. We start by asking about your loved one's wishes and what has become hard.
- 2. A visit to the home.We arrange an in-home visit to look at basic needs and the home environment, and to answer your questions. The assessment is free, and it is how we decide what care is needed. We call this the Client Care Profile.
- 3. A care plan built around the person. We write a Person-Centered Care Plan that reflects your loved one's history, routines and preferences. We go through it with the family in detail and change it until it fits.
You are welcome to have other family members join the call or visit.
What to have ready
You don't need paperwork to call. It helps to think about a few things:
- Which daily tasks are getting difficult: cleaning, laundry, cooking, shopping, getting to appointments.
- Whether your parent is lonely or would enjoy walks, games or conversation.
- The days and times you imagine help would be useful.
- Who in the family should be our contact.
- Any questions about costs or paying for care. See paying for care for those.
If hands-on help like bathing or dressing may be needed, mention it. That falls under personal care, and we can talk it through during the consultation.
Meeting your caregiver and staying in touch
Once the plan is agreed, we match a caregiver by interests, personality and the services needed. Every caregiver is screened, with background and reference checks, and is bonded and insured. Learn more on our caregivers page.
After care begins, caregivers write detailed notes on each visit so you know what happened. Supervisory staff also visit the home from time to time. If a caregiver isn't the right fit, one phone call gets a new match.
How soon care can begin is something your care manager will talk through with you on the call.
